Maverick Aquatic Sports Centre
Model featured on ArchDaily
The building design stemmed from geometrical and functional investigations of porosities. Fluid embedded within the structure of the building canopy regulates the building environment through a solar water heating and evaporative cooling system.
The overall building form is inspired by water movement pattern, encouraging a dynamic sporting environment. Interweaving landscapes blur the boundaries between what is interior and exterior, seamlessly merging outdoor public gathering spaces with indoor pools.
Exploration of Porosities
Initially inspired by the passive temperature regulation system of ant colonies and termite hills, a series of studies have been carried out to explore porosities in different scales, from material experimentations to facade systems that function in conjunction to stabilise internal environments in extreme weathers.
Evolution of Geometry
Situated on the Boston shore, the building form is inspired by water flow patterns, blending the architecture with its context. This creates a soft boundary between the land and water.
Design Realisation
The building has been developed taking in considerations of its functional, environmental, structural and delivery strategies.
